Ronald McDonald House Charities' mission is to reduce the burden of childhood illness on children and their families

In 2008, RMHC provided temporary lodging services to nearly 6,000 families coming into or living in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. An additional 41,000 individuals visited the Family Room, inside Children's Mercy Hospital, seeking respite and a meal from the stressful hospital environment.

2,000 families stayed at our Cherry Street and Longfellow Houses. Roughly 94% of the families were from Missouri and Kansas. However, we served families from 30 states and two other countries.

• Average length of stay is from 5 to 24 days, depending on the location, and many families stay months at a time.
• Cherry Street - 5 days
• Longfellow Standard Rooms - 10 days
• Longfellow Suites - 24 days
• 4,000 families utilized our lodging facilities at the Family Room. Roughly 98% of our families were from Missouri and Kansas. Families from two additional states were also served

Volunteer Corner

Volunteers are at the heart of the House and help make families feel welcomed in their home away from home. It’s amazing how a smile and hello can brighten a person’s day.

Here are a few examples of how you can help:

• Join the MoKan Bike Show staff and support this event
• Donate directly (see Donate button at bottom of page)
• Adopt a 2 to 4 hour shift twice a month as a House Warmer
• Provide a meal for the guest families to enjoy after a long day at the hospital
• Collect wish list items to help provide comforts of home.
• Assist with general maintenance, cleaning, landscaping, or other light chores around the House
• Organize a fundraiser to help fund overnight stays for families - no family is turned away based on their inability to pay the charitable contribution of $10/night that helps defray our cost of $60/night.
